About Montana

Extending from the Rocky Mountains to the Great Plains, Montana is a ruggedly beautiful state in the American West. It is one of the least populated states in the United States, with huge expanses of national parks, forests and wide open spaces that attract adventure-seeking travellers from near and far.

Things to do in Montana

Whether you want to get cultured in Bozeman or escape to the wilds of Glacier National Park, Montana will leave you speechless.

Explore Glacier National Park. Encompassing snow-capped mountains, alpine meadows and sparkling lakes, Glacier National Park is the jewel in Montana’s crown. It can easily be explored along the 80-kilometre-long Going-to-the-Sun Road, which has been designated as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Alternatively, there are hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails to explore, with one of the most famous being the spectacular Highline Trail.

Visit the museums of Bozeman. Located in the Rocky Mountains of southern Montana, Bozeman is a lively city surrounded by hiking, mountain biking and skiing trails. Learn about AI and communications at the American Computer & Robotics Museum before delving into the local history at the Museum of the Rockies. This Montana State University-run institution is also home to the Siebel Dinosaur Complex, which is famed for its collection of Tyrannosaurus rex specimens.

Get active in Yellowstone National Park. Montana encompasses the north-west corner of Yellowstone National Park, with both the West Entrance and the North Entrance within the state’s boundaries. The West Entrance provides easy access to the world's tallest (currently-active) geyser, Steamboat Geyser, as well as the highly predictable Old Faithful geyser. From the North Entrance, you can explore the Boiling River and the travertine terraces of the Mammoth Hot Springs.

Getting around Montana

Billings Logan International Airport and Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport are the major aviation gateways to Montana, with flights to destinations across the United States. Amtrak’s Empire Builder train serves towns and cities across the state’s north while long-distance buses connect communities in the south. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around Montana.
