About Madison

Things to do in Madison

The 1912 State Capitol Building dominates the skyline of Madison and was modelled on the US Capitol Building in Washington D.C. Join a guided tour to witness its immense dome and admire the beautifully carved pediments illustrating the business conducted within.

The lively boulevard of State Street extends from the Capitol to the University of Wisconsin and is lined with shopping boutiques, outdoor cafes and museums. Stop in at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art to see international paintings and drawings, before discovering the events that have shaped Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Historical Museum.

Travelling with kids? Visit the Madison Children's Museum, which is located right next to the State Capitol. This award-winning museum features interactive and hands-on exhibits in the Possible-opolis invention centre, a dedicated Art Studio and an outdoor “Urb Garden”, which teaches about composting and sustainability.

Spend an afternoon exploring the themed displays of the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, which include one of only two Thai sala pavilions in the United States. Admire the reflecting pool in the Sunken Garden and the wildflowers of the Meadow Garden, then step inside the conservatory where more than 650 exotic and tropical species are on display.

Getting around Madison
